In the decadent Venezuelan economy, two of his new ventures, \r\nTosta'o Coffee Market and Kenco Estudio Creativo flourish against any forecast, \r\nno matter how bad it may be. These companies were born in the worst years of the \r\ncrisis in Venezuela and with an unexpected expansion under way. His secret is \r\nthe close alliances with <I>chavismo<\/I>.<\/p>\n\n\r\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None \r\nof his projects has decreased in the self-styled Bolivarian revolution. There is \r\na recent complaint of plagiarism of the concept against the cafeteria, located \r\nin eastern Caracas, filed by the famous food chain Tostao' Caf\u00e9 &amp; Pan, of \r\nthe BBI International group and originally from Colombia. But Fernandez is \r\nunconcerned. Its thriving companies have had the backing of \r\nthe Chavez government since 2004. It was that year when he began to undergo a \r\ntransformation from a modest merchant to a corporate leader in the South \r\nAmerican country. He had registered, then, with his current wife, Darin Wahbeh \r\nSaroukhan, the Atahualpa Group.<\/p>\n\n\r\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \r\nmuscle of its business activities has been the military. In Fuerte Tiuna, the \r\nmain military installation in the country, in the southwest of Caracas, he \r\ndeveloped the Tiuna Industrial Complex I. There, in the heart of the barracks \r\nthat serves as headquarters for the Ministry of Defense, operates his drinking \r\nwater bottling plant and its textile factory; both make up the Atahualpa Group \r\nin an unusual location.<\/p>\n\n\r\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among \r\nhis other companies in Venezuela, there is Representaciones y Servicios ADWD, \r\nDistribuidora Todo Sur, Texticentro II, Servicios Industriales El Gran Pa\u00eds, \r\nProductos Serigr\u00e1ficos Atahualpa. While his favorite clients include Banco de la \r\nFuerza Armada Nacional Bolivariana, Petr\u00f3leos de Venezuela, the National \r\nElectoral Council (CNE), Sidor (Sider\u00fargica del Orinoco \"Alfredo Maneiro\"), the \r\nNational Telephone Company of Venezuela (Cantv), Movilnet, Government of the \r\nCapital District, Corporaci\u00f3n Venezolana de la Juventud Productora (Venezuelan \r\nCorporation of Producing Youth), Ministry of Communes, Venezuelan Institute of \r\nSocial Security (IVSS), among other state-dependent agencies. \r\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/armando.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/26102017-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/armando.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/26102017-02.jpg 800w, https:\/\/armando.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/26102017-02-700x466.jpg 700w, https:\/\/armando.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/26102017-02-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption>Atahualpa Fern\u00e1ndez has relied on alliances with the military leadership to expand his businesses<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His \r\nbrand stood out in the 2013 presidential campaign. That year, his backpacks \r\n\u2014designed by the Atahualpa Group with the omnipresent eyes of Hugo Ch\u00e1vez as \r\nlogo or motif\u2014 were distributed among thousands of citizens to promote the \r\nsuccessor of the leader of the revolution, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro. Two years later, the \r\nbusinessman was portrayed along with senior officials of the Bolivarian National \r\nArmed Forces to promote bottles of mineral water that, in alliance with Compa\u00f1\u00eda \r\nAn\u00f3nima de Industrias Militares (Cavim), would supply the Venezuelan market. It \r\nhad been the cut-off point for Fern\u00e1ndez not to continue being the figure behind \r\nhis products, but rather a brand of the <I>chavista<\/I> \r\nprocess.<\/p>\n\n\r\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outside \r\nthe corporate closet, Fern\u00e1ndez insists on showing a fresh face. He shows a \r\ngroup of uniformed men who won in October, and for the ninth time, a softball \r\ntournament held in the Dominican Republic. It is the \"Bandidos de un Solo Brazo\" \r\nteam from Venezuela, sponsored by its company Complejo Industrial Tiuna I, which \r\nhas defeated its adversaries. The sport is one of the countless hobbies he \r\nshares with former president Ch\u00e1vez. The rest are his leftist doctrines, his \r\npassion for the military and a pretense to highlight the social aspect. That is \r\nhis speech in front of the television cameras and the written press. His \r\ncomments focus on applauding the work of Venezuelan socialism in almost all his \r\ninterviews.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Favorite Ally<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like \r\nTosta'o Coffee Market, Kenco design agency has also shown an emerging \r\nadvertising potential. Its director and co-founder, Karen Cort\u00e9s, niece of the \r\nMinister for Communication and Information, Ernesto Villegas Poljak, opened in \r\nSeptember a new branch in La Castellana, in eastern Caracas, where they provide \r\nservices ranging from flat to canvas printing.<\/p>\n\n\r\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fern\u00e1ndez \r\nhas been engaged in founding companies with his wife. The business purposes \r\nvary: textile production, food service, beverage manufacturing, design, and \r\ncreative advice. Some companies and properties are established in Venezuela, \r\nothers in foreign lands like the Dominican Republic, Peru, United States of \r\nAmerica and Spain. The good sense of this businessman has been productive even \r\nin times of revolution. He was part of a top-class that emerged in the Ch\u00e1vez \r\ngovernment which, for more than ten years, made him a beneficiary of the desired \r\npreferential dollars granted by Cencoex (National Foreign Trade Center), former \r\nCadivi (Foreign Exchange Administration Commission), an institution currently \r\ninvestigated by the Prosecutor's Office for having disbursed millions of dollars \r\nto cash shell companies or that simply incurred in exchange crimes between 2011 \r\nand 2014. <\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/armando.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/26102017-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/armando.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/26102017-03.jpg 800w, https:\/\/armando.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/26102017-03-700x466.jpg 700w, https:\/\/armando.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/26102017-03-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption>Atahualpa Fern\u00e1ndez<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \r\ndestiny of the dollars granted by the governing body of foreign currency to \r\nFernandez - over 7.5 million in the decade from 2004 to 2014 - has also been a \r\nmatter to be investigated in the ranks of the Venezuelan opposition. In 2015, \r\nJulio Montoya, deputy of the National Assembly, blamed the businessman and his \r\npartner Luis Eduardo \u00c1lvarez, a relative of former vice president and current \r\nforeign minister Jorge Arreaza \u2013son-in-law of Commander Ch\u00e1vez-, for being the \r\nfinancial bridge in Venezuela of the Podemos political party in Spain. \"If you \r\ncheck their records, you will find the links with Podemos,\" he said in an \r\ninterview with Madrid's ABC newspaper. \"Atahualpa's shell companies maintain \r\nactive contacts in Spain, where he owns companies in association with Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda \r\nRubio Hermoso de Mendoza, the administrator of F\u00f3rmula Cuatro Televisi\u00f3n and \r\nMedios SL, and also a member of Royal Spanish Automobile Federation and Formula \r\n4 Ib\u00e9rica SL.\"<\/p>\n\n\r\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fern\u00e1ndez \r\nlives in Madrid with Wahbeh Saroukhan and his two sons. In Spain, he and his \r\nwife run several businesses. Before his frantic economic expansion, he was in \r\nthe shadows. His father, Senen Fern\u00e1ndez Delgado, a Spaniard and founder of the \r\nCommunist Party of Bolivia, had migrated to Venezuela in October 1983 with his \r\nPeruvian wife Rosa Alburu and their five children. The family was avoiding the \r\neconomic crisis in Peru, having phlegmatic beginnings in \r\nCaracas.<\/p>\n\n\r\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atahualpa, \r\nraised in a middle-class home, was engaged in the textile industry. He was a \r\nfabric cutter, initially, in the center of the capital of Venezuela. \"I became a \r\nmechanic of sewing machines at 16 years old. I got to master the trade by being \r\nconsistent.
